The following experts – widely recognized in Pakistan and internationally – are august members of the Board of Advisors of Media Center.

Iqbal Khattak

Member Advisory Board

Iqbal Khattak is having over 23 years of experience in media strategy, editing and reporting, as started journalistic career with Peshawar-based English-language daily The Frontier Post ( in September 1989. Stayed with tem till March 2000 in different capacities such as Sports Desk in charge, deputy Edition in charge and Assistant Editor. Currently is working as Executive Director, Freedom Network. The organization is working to defend civic liberties and won prestigious French Republic’s Human Rights Prize in December 2017.Doing consultancies with different national and international organizations about media strategy, journalism and journalists’ safety. Also; Works with Paris-based international media rights group Reporters without Border ( since 1999. He is the second most senior staff member and elevated from correspondence position to Representative Position in 2017.

Major Usman (R)

Member Advisory Board

Major Usman has Completed 24 years of active service in the army and retired normally as a major, Participated in counter insurgency operations as combatant in Dir, Bajaur, Swat and Mohmand. Conducted anti-narcotics operations in Baluchistan, seizing world largest narcotics consignment bound to the USA in 1990.

The incident was duly acknowledged by DEA Department of Justice USA .He is performing as focal person for Security & Administration in various INGOs (IMC, USAID, Internews, and ACF & Malteser International) since last 9 years. He also conducted training of journalists in conflict zone reporting and other evasive action courses.  Academically, Usman did Masters in English Language. Have done his security and leadership related courses & trainings both at home & abroad.

Farzana Ali

Member Advisory Board

Farzana Ali, Peshawar based journalists and the first women bureau chief in Pakistan, working at Aaj TV — a position also responsible for the seven tribal agencies — made it clear from the time she began as a journalist with Daily Mashriq in 1997 that she was going to push the boundaries even on the social issues beat. Her stories on swara (the tribal custom of giving girls in marriage as compensation to settle feuds) and honor killing were among those that ruffled many conservative feathers. They also established her reputation for hard-hitting journalism by the time she joined television. In 2009, Aaj gave her a show called ‘Hot Frontier’ during which she did in situ reporting on the military operations in Swat and South Waziristan. She holds Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism, also worked as journalism trainer. She was the General Secretary of South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) and various women forums.

Shamim Shahid

Member Advisory Board

Shamim Shahid, a Peshawar-based senior political and security analyst, holds a master’s degree in journalism (Gold Medalist) and remained associated with several mainstream media organizations at the national and international levels. His particular field of interest includes Afghan issues: Having a detailed knowledge of various political, Jihadi, and militant forces in that country along with its leaders and stalwarts and knowing about the socio-politico structure of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjacent Tribal areas known as FATA. Detailed knowledge of the local religious forces, their influence on society, etc. Working as a Human Rightist and associated with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Inter News Pakistan, InterMedia Pakistan, Save the Children Pakistan, South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA), and Liberal Forum Pakistan as a member, special rapporteur, and other capacities.

Irfan Younas

Member Advisory Board

Irfan Younas – Having more than seventeen years of diversified experience in communication for social & Behavioral change with various organizations including Strengthen Participatory Organization, Save the Children, Oxfam GB, STEP/UNICEF, Development Alternative Inc., and Equal Access International. Vast experience in social mobilization through behavior change communication and audio/video content development for humanitarian and right-based organizations. Currently working in Equal Access as Country Director was designed and implemented more than 14 projects with different international donors. Has extensive experience in developing Media & communication plans, ICT and social media plans, project management, M&E plan, Journalist Exchange program, developing communication strategies, and Peace-building Outreach activity while conflict mitigation and Interfaith social harmony through community engagement activities are the key features of my experiences. has experience in communications during emergencies and implemented Psycho-social support projects in the 2005 devastating earthquake in Pakistan. A seasonal writer of radio and documentary program on Counter Violent extremism, promotion of girl’s education, Non-violent approach of conflict resolution, and youth engagement in civic activities. Master in applied sociology and project management is an academic qualification.

Gohar Ali Khan

Executive Director

Gohar Ali Khan, an accomplished journalist and media development expert with over 25 years of experience, assumes the role of Executive Director at Media Center Pakistan. With a robust background spanning esteemed media houses like AFP, The Frontier Post, and Daily Jang, Gohar brings unparalleled expertise in journalistic practices, including comprehensive coverage and insightful reporting on various critical issues. His tenure in media development, notably with Internews Network, underscores his commitment to nurturing the next generation of journalists, having trained over 300 professionals in basic journalism, safety protocols, and conflict reporting within the KPK/FATA region. Additionally, Gohar’s advocacy for journalism unions has been instrumental, having played pivotal roles in establishing and managing several press clubs and unions, further solidifying the journalistic community’s rights and voice.

Gohar’s accolades include the prestigious Pride of Performance Award from the Peshawar Press Club, highlighting his exemplary contributions to the field. His leadership extends beyond formal roles, serving as the Ex-Vice President of the Khyber Union of Journalists and actively participating in various governing bodies of press clubs. With a vision centered on elevating journalistic standards, fostering dialogue, and advocating for press freedom, Gohar is poised to lead Media Center Pakistan towards becoming a beacon of journalistic integrity and professional excellence, championing the rights and safety of media practitioners across Pakistan and beyond.

Syed Hassan Gillani

Programs Manager

Syed Hassan Gillani is a professional journalist and media development practitioner with more than eighteen years of experience in print and electronic media. Started his career as a reporter from PTV news in 1998 and served the organization until 2005. He worked for Voice of America as a correspondent between 2005-2011. Gillani also remained associated with various national English dailies including daily “The Muslim” and daily ‘The Nation”
In 2011, Gillani joined Internews Network as a journalism trainer and implemented various internationally funded projects aimed at capacity building of media houses and journalists in KP, FATA, Balochistan and Sindh.
On December 01, 2018 He joined Media Center Pakistan as a Programs Manager.
Hassan Gillani hold a master’s degree in Media Studies.

Muhammad Adil

IT Officer

Muhammad Adil is Information Technology, Computer Science & Communication specialist and Professional software engineer. He has been graduated in Computer Science from University of Engineering & Technology in 2009 and since then he worked with various national and international organizations including Internews Pakistan, UET Peshawar, Swat Media Services and Shoaib Sons & Publishers.

Adil developed, designed and installed radio and video studios in various organization as well trained hundreds of professionals in IT, Digital Security, Data Management and Data and Digital Journalism.

On December 01, 2018 joined Media Center Pakistan as IT Officer and is focal person for all IT related activities.

Adnan Mohmand

M&E Manager

Mr. Adnan stands out as a distinguished Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) professional, particularly in the media sector, showcasing his adeptness in designing and implementing tailored M&E frameworks. With extensive experience collaborating with reputable organizations like Tribal News Network (TNN) and Media Center Pakistan (MCP), he plays pivotal roles in enhancing M&E methodologies to effectively measure the impact and reach of media interventions. Through his consulting assignments, Adnan demonstrates his commitment to improving accountability and learning within media initiatives, employing innovative monitoring tools and reporting guidelines to document success stories and drive continuous improvement. His proficiency in data analysis, coupled with his keen understanding of media dynamics, ensures that M&E efforts in the media sector are rigorous and strategically aligned with organizational goals. Adnan’s contributions underscore his invaluable expertise in leveraging M&E to maximize the impact and effectiveness of media programs, making him an indispensable asset in this rapidly evolving field.

Saeeda Gohar

Finance Assistant

Saeeda Gohar serves as the Finance Assistant at Media Center Pakistan, bringing a robust foundation in finance with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance (BS Finance). With a meticulous approach and a keen eye for numbers, Saeeda plays a pivotal role in supporting the financial operations of the organization.

Her dedication to detail and strong analytical skills enable her to efficiently manage financial transactions and ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines. Saeeda’s proactive attitude and proficiency in financial management software contribute to the smooth functioning of the finance department, facilitating effective decision-making processes within Media Center Pakistan

Naheed Jehangir

Assistant Manager

Naheed Jehangir is a dedicated professional currently serving as the Assistant Manager of Programs at Media Center Pakistan. With a solid educational background, she holds an MPhil degree in Media Studies, showcasing her deep understanding of the media landscape.

Naheed brings a wealth of experience to her role, having worked across various media organizations primarily focusing on program management. Her expertise lies in conceptualizing, planning, and executing media programs with precision and effectiveness. She possesses a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach towards addressing challenges in the ever-evolving media industry.

Throughout her career, Naheed has demonstrated strong leadership skills and a knack for fostering collaborative environments to achieve organizational objectives. Her passion for media coupled with her academic qualifications and hands-on experience make her an invaluable asset to the Media Center Pakistan team

Masooma Mudassir

Admin Assistant

Masooma Mudassir brings a blend of academic expertise and administrative proficiency to her role as Admin Assistant at Media Center Pakistan. Holding a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication & International Relations, Masooma possesses a comprehensive understanding of media dynamics and global affairs.

With her strong organizational skills and attention to detail, Masooma effectively supports the administrative functions of the organization. Her ability to multitask and prioritize tasks ensures the smooth operation of day-to-day activities at Media Center Pakistan. Masooma’s proactive approach and excellent communication skills make her a valuable asset in maintaining efficient workflow and fostering a collaborative work environment within the organization.
